Technical Study Tour and Field Visit under IFAD/CASP Programme (Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness Support Programme)

The Arab Water Council (AWC) has successfully conducted a Technical Study Tour and Field Visit under IFAD/CASP Programme (Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness Support Programme) involving a Nigerian Delegation of 9 candidates, with a special focus on “Irrigation Infrastructure and Water Management and Community-Based Road Maintenance.”

 

The Arab Water Council (AWC) has successfully conducted a Technical Study Tour and Field Visit under IFAD/CASP Programme (Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness Support Programme) involving a Nigerian Delegation of 9 candidates, with a special focus on “IRRIGATION INFRASTRUCTURE AND WATER MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY-BASED ROAD MAINTENANCE.”

The Study Tour took place in different governorates of Egypt during the period 14 – 20 March 2021, with the aim of exchanging experience and learning from the Egyptian case studies and implementing projects in Egypt. The key objective of the Study Tour was to build the capacities of CASP Community Rural Infrastructure Engineers through deeper understanding and better management of the water resources, to develop a better conception of the diverse aspects of shared water resources and best practices on irrigation technologies, to enhance the development of waterworks and sanitation services by improving water use efficiency, promoting the use of non-conventional water resources, and providing knowledge of community-based road maintenance concept, as well as to adopt water management practices that will be beneficial to the farmers, livestock and human use.

The Study Tour comprised representatives from CASP different sectors and included: technical sessions presented by lecturers with a wide range of expertise on Water Management Practices in Semi-Arid Regions; a Field Visit to a selected Production Farm and Road Net between Farms and Markets in Giza Governorate; a Technical Visit to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt & the Egyptian Pubic Authority for Drainage; a Field Visit to the Irrigation Improvement Project and Water Users’ Association (WUA) Pilot Area at El-Fayum Governorate, finally ending with a Social and Historical Tour in Cairo.
